There are many different styles of dance and costuming, each with its own flavor. Over many centuries, these dances have been handed down in the countries of their origin. Each generation adding there own interpretation and special flair to the dance.
Dance from the Heart
I teach from an artistic viewpoint and do not encourage choreography except in troupe presentations. My goal is to teach form and musicality so you can dance with spirit, exploring the emotional range of the music. Your dance is a unique journey of self-expression that comes from within.
I encourage students to honor your own individuality and express the innate beauty and artistry you possess. Dance from your heart. Your reasons for engaging in the dance are as individual as you are and will likely evolve and change over time as you grow. So whether you are coming from a spiritual dance perspective, or charting a path to the glitz of the Cairo cabaret stage, finding the right instructor for your needs is key to your enjoyment.
If you have the luxury of having many local teachers from which to choose as we have in the SF Bay Area, I recommend taking one or two classes from each instructor before deciding on your core teacher. Don’t give up on MEDance if the first teacher you try doesn’t suit your taste. There are many dance styles and teaching philosophies out there. Find one that’s right for you.
